VERY INSPIRED!!! But nothing has changed.3
I’ve been listening to his cd’s for over 2 months and still can’t get rid of the bad eating habits. I have had this insatiable craving for chocolate for over a year and I don’t know what else to do!! I am a little dissapointed because I thought this was the real deal. I guess it just doesn’t work for everyone.

I Never Write in for Things Like This, but…5
After using this weight loss CD, I am truly a believer!
I have to say that I was more than a little skeptical at buying a ‘hypnosis’ CD, thinking it would work better than my $100/mo gym membership, my point counting with WW, or my pre-packaged food from JC, but I was truly desperate. My doctor had said that because of my age (I’m not THAT old ;-) and my diabetes that I simply HAD to lose weight. And after crazy diets, numerous weight-loss programs, and several different attempts at regular exercise, I was really at the end of my rope.
THEN I heard about this CD from a neighbor and thought it couldn’t hurt and was definitely cheaper than many of my other options. So every night, as I went to sleep, I’d lay in bed and start listening to the soothing voice saying, “Hello, I’m Trevor Scott…” I say start listening because between the voice and the soft music, I fell asleep almost immediately. (It’s probably worth the investment if you have trouble sleeping too. :-) Anyway, over the next five months of having Mr Scott put me to sleep, I dropped just over 40 pounds!!!
Now, I had lost weight before, but then once I stopped the plan, I’d gain it all right back. Well, it’s been two years now, and I’ve maintained the whole 40 pound weight loss, and am now coming back for more. I’d like to lose a little more and have decided to rekindle my relationship with my sleepy time buddy and relax my way to thin…some more.
I can’t say enough good things about this CD. And all it cost me was the initial purchase…and the cost of lots of new, and smaller, clothes.

good stuff on hypnosis weight loss4
I got to know hypnosis after reading a blog:

http://weightlosscheap.com

After that I read several books and this looks like the good one and like to recommend. It is well written and helpful.

Mouth-Watering5
I loved the three CDs in this package– well, I loved the first and third, and thought the second was just OK. The MFK Fisher story about an overzealous waitress at a small country restaurant in France was terrific, and the Damon Runyon story about an eating contest was also outstanding.

Skinny Bitch: A No-Nonsense, Tough-Love Guide for Savvy Girls Who Want to Stop Eating Crap and Start Looking Fabulous

Want to prevent illnesses and dis-ease? Then read this book.4
Though I prefer Quantum Wellness and The China Study to Skinny Bitch, nonetheless this book IS VERY IMPORTANT for those who value their health.
If you eat a well balanced vegan diet that is not all carbs ( hey, there are ‘junk food’ vegans out there who eat nothing but empty carbs), you are FACTUALLY PREVENTING DISEASE AND WILL REGULATE YOUR BODY WEIGHT. Do your homework people, don’t just believe doctors who have LITTLE TO NO training in nutrition and preventative medicine.
I am reposting here my response to a so called Doctor and nurse who wrote the book is nonsense.
‘ I am deeply disturbed by your lack of knowledge pertaining to the physiological ramifications of living a meat free, dairy free life. I too am in the health industry but consume a vegan diet, which has no saturated or trans fats, and is high in omega 3 6 and 9 acids ( derived from flax, borage, and other plant oils). I get large amounts of protein and iron from a plants and it is more readily absorbed that of fat and chemical laden meat.
Are you simply unaware of The China Study and Dr. Max Gerson’s research on the effects of a meat/dairy free diet on cancer patients, or do you just have another agenda, such as to push the populace’s consumption of meat?
And Jayne, just as S. Mehl asked, how many hours of study did you get as a nurse? Are you aware of the longest study of diet ever concocted in history, known as the China Study? How man of your ex-patients were obese or overweight and how many of them were carnivores? Do both of you know that cancer is on the rise and obesity is an epidemic in this country, which consumes more meat/dairy ( and from sick, hormone-laden sources) than most other countries?
It is sad that people like you two ( who are absolutely ignorant on nutrition and preventative medicine) are on amazon spreading lies about a vegan diet.
My husband is an asthmatic who was told that he would have to use an anti-inflammatory inhaler every 12 hours of his life. He adopted a vegan, gluten free diet when he noticed that his attacks would happen when he consumed gluten and dairy ( which contains lactose and the horrible protein casein, which is used IN GLUE). He now uses his inhaler maybe one to two times a month.
I am working with a girl who lost her baby due to having to deliver her daughter at 21 weeks, as she had kidney failure and the placenta was putting too much pressure on her kidneys. She was destroyed by her daughter’s death, and now is facing her own since she is in stage four. After having her simply cut back on meat ( and thus taking pressure off of her kidneys, which like other organs work overtime when meat is consumed) and start to drink Dr. Schulzes Kidney tea ( which assists the kidneys in functioning and cleans them) she feels much better and less tired. I hope she is able to continue eating less meat and hopefully none at all.
PREVENTATIVE MEDICINE = NUTRITION Don’t you remember Hippocrates? Didn’t you take his Oath?
Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet. ~Albert Einstein
Book review5
This is the best book ever on eating/living right. I was not a vegetarian before I read this book, but was one a week after reading it. Not that vegetarianism is absolutely the way to go for everyone, but I found it was for me. Just read the book and you will understand. I loved the way the authors were extremely blunt in their approach and the way all of their advice was supported. They have an opinion, yet they remain objective. It was a great read and really opened my eyes to a lot of things regarding eating/living well, industrial farming, and money and government regulations go hand in hand when it comes to food in America.

It’s Crap1
if you follow this diet, you’ll lose weight. if you follow the atkins diet, you’ll lose weight. if you follow the south beach diet, you’ll lose weight. the question is can you follow the diet? the answer is no. i thought i was buying a book on weight loss. i wasn’t. i was buying a treatise about the “evils” of eating meat and i returned the book. i’m not going to argue the right or wrongs of meat eating because i don’t have too. what i will argue is that this book was misleading and fraudulent and not worthy of purchasing, publishing, or writing.

Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly

Now I find Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly I make this product appeal to young people

Customer Shopping BuZZ

An interesting read5
Anthony Bourdain is sort of a cynical character and portrays this dark, drug infested culinary life. I think he is a little jaded and not all kitchens are like the ones he worked in. Some are though. It was a good read (not for young readers due to language/adult references) and held my interest to the end. As a new professional chef, it gives you a bit of a reality check and some good advice for succeeding in the field. As with anything, though, take it with a grain of salt.

Witty, Sarcastic, and Honest5
He had me at “preface”.

I haven’t actually finished reading it so this review may be premature. Immediately after I started the book, I began to read passages outloud to my boyfriend who gifted this book. If this tells you anything, I buy books from Amazon all the time but this is the first review I’ve ever written.

Anthony Bourdain is someone I picture myself hanging out with my friends over a long nice meal. Just as I had imagined from watching his show, No Reservations, the author is witty, sarcastic, and offensively-yet-refreshingly blunt. I’m loving it!

I really recommend this book for you and for your friends who pride in themselves as cooks, chefs, servers, and of course, the foodies. Enjoy!

Deliciously Grotesque!5
First off I have to say…I love this man! Bourdain’s book is arrogant, crude, bullying, and egotistical and I loved every word, every line, every put-down, and every cuss word! Though this book was filled with technical terms and names of chefs that I have never heard of, Bourdain mentions in the preface that the book was originally intended for other chefs…not for the general layperson. I read it anyway.

I was introduced to Anthony Bourdain by a friend via his television show “No Reservations.” I immediately fell in love with his holier-than-thou, better-than-most attitude. Maybe it is the thrill and fascination of the “bad boy” but I could not stop watching the show. Discovering that he had written a book was the icing on the cake.

The book is not a summary or recollection of his travels through different countries, cultures, and foods with his show. I believe that is contained in another book. Instead this book was more of a memoir; Bourdain’s journey through the culinary trenches and godforsaken kitchens. Bourdain reminisces over his childhood and the cold soup that awakened his taste buds, the oyster that aroused his ensuing passion for food.

Bourdain may be a condescending a**hole but he seems humbled by some of his experiences and the people he has admired over the years. I enjoyed the fact that he wrote an afterword that made certain apologies to some individuals he had criticized throughout his book and his time as a chef. However, a friend of mine hated the fact that he made apologies. She feels that if he is going to be a supercilious bastard he should make no apologies for such behavior.

This book detailed many disgusting habits of the kitchens he worked in. Bourdain provides the reader with thorough descriptions of foods he has cooked and foods he enjoyed eating…and if you know Anthony Bourdain you know he enjoys some un-American fare. Eating the gelatinous goo from behind the eyeball of the fishhead he was enjoying has remained in my head.

The reader who picks up this book is in for an intense ride. A love of food, cooking, or Bourdain himself is recommended before delving into this six-course book. I definitely have no complaints about this book. But hey…who am I? Just a lowly reviewer with an unsettling attraction to Anthony Bourdain that’s who.

Product Description

When Chef Anthony Bourdain wrote “Don’t Eat Before You Read This” in The New Yorker, he spared no one’s appetite, revealing what goes on behind the kitchen door. In Kitchen Confidential, he expanded the appetizer into a deliciously funny, delectably shocking banquet that lays out his twenty-five years of sex, drugs, and haute cuisine.

From his first oyster in Gironda to the kitchen of the Rainbow Room atop Rockefeller Center, from the restaurants of Tokyo to the drug dealers of the East Village, from the mobsters to the rats, Bourdain’s brilliantly written and wonderfully read, wild-but-true tales make the belly ache with laughter.

Changed my life. 5
This book changed my life. No really, it did. It is beautifully well written but contains so much valuable and accessible information. Everyone should be required to read it because it dispels many misperceptions about food products available today. Michael Pollan is one of the greatest authors I’ve ever read and I recommend this book to everyone. In fact, I plan to give it to everyone for Christmas this year.

What we need to know, and don’t5
I heard first about this book while viewing CSpan 2 several months ago. Read this book and then his follow-up In Defense of Food: An Eater’s ManifestoBoth books were eye-openers as to what we should and don’t know about the omnivore’s true dilemma. I’m still puzzled about “organic” but did learn to look for real food rather than all those nonfood substitutes so prevalent in our grocery stores. I’m also convinced I’ll spend more to get better tasting real food from now on. I like those eggs that stand up and taste so good. Also, I’m reading labels and avoiding products with more than five ingredients where I can find them.

The book was suggested for my local book club and we were to review it today, December l6, 2008. The Club was cancelled due to inclement weather; however, several of the Club members said we really had to discuss it. It is now scheduled for January, 2009. Oh yes, the author was on Bill Moyers program last week.
Great Book5
Very interesting. It is for the person who really wants to know where our food comes from.

In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto

This day I’ll introduce you about In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto You can see Now!

Eat food5
Pollan’s seven word manifesto has the potential to change how we eat in this country. He goes through the science of where we went wrong (redutionism) and then tries to explain how we can do better (holism).

Eat food, mostly plants, not too much. He then explains that is clear and understandable terms. We should all read this book and inculcate its message into our lives.

A manifesto for mindful food consumption…3
Author Michael Pollan develops a powerful thesis which is succinctly summarized in the title:

* Eat food (he defines “food” and differentiates it from what passes for food at the grocery store
* Eat in moderation
* Eat mostly plants

That pretty much sums up the message, along with ancillary tips: eat at a table, eat with others, grow a garden however small, etc. About 60% of the book is filled with background material and science which at times made my eyes glaze over.

This book can change the way you feel about food and eating.

A good read to consume before your next trip to McDonald’s.

Timely book by Pollan5
Michael has written another gem. This book is profound and timely. What you eat and approach to food have a great deal to do with your health. He argues that the western diet is the problem. hard to dispute!
