Cupcake making is fun!!
I have to say that the cupcakes in this book can take a long time to make and some of the ingredients are definitely hard to find – but the instructions are great and the results are well worth it. I had so much fun making the cupcakes and got rave reviews from everyone that saw them!

Best Cupcake Book Ever
This book is so creative and awesome. I walk down the candy aisle with a whole new outlook. I see junior mints as the pupils for owls eyes and green licorice as stems for pumpkins. I love this book.

This books needs updating
I was really looking forward to this book based on the reputation of Ben and Jerry’s Ice Creams. I was VERY disappointed that this book, published in the 1980’s, features many recipes that call for whole raw eggs that don’t get cooked !! Was there no problem with salmonella back then? I would have expected them to update the book or tell the home cook how to make an acceptable substitution. Better yet, when we buy Ben and Jerry’s I can’t believe the FDA allows them to sell a product that has uncooked eggs in it. If they have made adjustments they should have let the book buyer in on it.

MMMMMmmmmmmm….
The ice cream turns out so well from this book. I use a Cuisinart electric ice cream maker with this and my ice cream is WONDERFUL. So far the pumpkin ice cream has been the biggest hit.

Entertainly and Educational
We purchased this book at the same time as we invested in Cuisinart’s Indulgence Ice Cream Maker. Both were excellent purchases and make a great team.

Please read the introductory pages and sidebars in this book. Not only a fun read but also enlightening and encouraging for small business dreamers and ice cream makers.

All of the recipes I have tried say they make a quart. This is a generous (of course) quart because generous is part of Ben and Jerry’s philosophy.

We like a little sweeter chocolate so I substitute semi or milk chocolate for their unsweetened chocolate squares. I also use a microwave to melt the chocolate rather than double boiler. Just my preference.

We started reading some of the book aloud to our teen kids and they asked for more! Along with their ice cream, of course.

I can only say that, AMAZING. I’ve tried about 30 recipes and they all got really good and very easy to prepare. I love my cookie bible. Martha Stewart has very good and interesting ideas as always.

For the Cookie Lover in All of Us
If you love cookies, then you’ll love this book! I love how the table of contents are pictures of the cookies! All the cookies are categorized by their texture, which helps you get a feel for the cookie and how it will taste in the end. This book is highly recommended!!!

Great recipes…a bit pretentious in presentation
I’ve tried several of the recipes so far, and they are great. Five stars for the cookies’ tastiness. However, I do think there’s a pretentiousness to the presentation. So I reduced the number of stars for that reason.

For example, sometimes there are unnecessary steps, like lining your cookie sheet with parchment paper. This is not necessary–I’ve made similar cookie recipes many times and I know that parchment is extraneous. But these recipes could get a baking newbie scurrying to the store for all kinds of unnecessary items like that. Also here’s an example of the pretentiousness I see: The recipe I’m trying now calls for “7 ounces best-quality semi-sweet chocolate, cut into 1/4 inch chunks.” Guess what that translates as: A cup and a half of semi-sweet chocolate chips. But I had to trundle out my food scales to figure that out, and that, like cutting unnecessary parchment paper, takes time which is better spent resting afterward, and eating your cookies. Also, a less experienced baker might go out and buy semi-sweet chocolate and think she has to break it into pieces herself. Talk about a nuisance.

Come on; quit the pretentiousness and write realistic recipes for realistic, real world cooks. So buy it for the recipes if you’ve a mind to, but be prepared to modify directions more than you might normally do for most recipes.

A friend higly recommended this book to me since Our family enjoys a good loaf of bread with dinner. I’m so glad I purchased the book! The recipes are so good! In fact, they’re better than the grocery store’s bakery breads! And it I’d so much cheaper to make at home!! The recipes are simple but great tasting! I higly recommend this book!
